Hollis Town Band 2011 Pops Concert

HTB presents its Annual Pops Concert to be held the afternoon of Sunday, April 3rd, at the Alpine Grove Banquet Facility, near the junction of Routes 111 and 111A in Hollis. Start off spring right with an afternoon of fine music and fine desserts, surrounded by friends and neighbors. Doors open at 1:00 p.m. with the Hollis Dixieland Band kicking off the music at 1:30 p.m., shortly followed by the Hollis Town Band. Throughout the concert, an enticing dessert buffet will fill the center of the Alpine Grove; it is open to all ticketholders.

Special guest artists include Richard Mills narrating, in his rich bass voice, Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, and Suellen Davidson, singing George Gershwin's I Got Plenty o' Nuttin' from Porgy and Bess. Instrumental soloists include Dr. David Deifik, flute, with The Swiss Shepherd by P. Morlacchi; the incredibly-adept Rick Lones performing Adolf Schreiner's Immer Kleiner, during which the performer successively removes portions of his instrument until he is left with just the mouthpiece to complete the piece. Rick Bolling, on solo trumpet, performs the speedy and delightful Allegro con Brio by Warren Barker, while Rex Atwood croons another Gershwin piece, Embraceable You, on his tenor sax. Adding to these fine soloist performances, the full HTB ensemble performs a variety of popular and pleasing pieces, including Light Cavalry Overture by F. von Suppé, F.W. Meacham's American Patrol, and Finale excerpts from Dvorák's Symphony No. 9, From the New World.

This concert has it all! Raffle prizes from area merchants will be awarded in a mid-concert series of drawings. This concert will also mark the first-time presentation of the Charlie Woods Service Award, established by the Band in 2010, by recognizing an outstanding member of the community as the first recipient. When you leave this year's Hollis Town Band Pops Concert, you'll still be wanting more music while feeling warm from some of those great Alpine Grove desserts!

Tickets are $21 for adults and a discounted $15 child ticket (under 13); they must be purchased by 23 March. An entire table may be reserved If you have a group of 10 - just let us know.
